Karen was born in Ilford in 1968 and shortly after moved, with her parents and younger sister, to the small village of Manuden on the Essex/Hertfordshire borders.
On leaving school in 1984 Karen initially trained as a Graphic Designer at Harlow Tertiary College, but following a major car accident when she was just eighteen years of age, and a succession of unsatisfying occupations, she ultimately decided to embark on a fresh career. Knowing that her heart lay in the creative atmosphere of the art world she began to study through The Regency Academy of Fine Arts in London, first as a Domestic and Commercial Interior Designer in 2001, and subsequently in Decorative Paint Techniques and Wall Finishes in 2004.
“It was the cumulative effect of studying both Interior Design and Decorative Paint Techniques which inspired me to explore a new concept in contemporary painting creating highly tactile 3-D works using multi-layers of contrasting textures and materials. Both the abstract compositions and the more representational images use either subtle palette ranges of complementary hues and tints or very dramatic and dynamic colour ways.”
Since embarking on her new career as an Artist in the latter part of 2004 Karen has enjoyed tremendous success not only in local exhibitions, but has also been selected to exhibit in five Open Exhibitions in 2006, including The Eastern Open (Bookends Showcase) at King's Lynn and The Fourth New Maynard Gallery Open at Welwyn Garden City.
She won the 'Abstract or Experimental Art' category for beginners hosted by The Society for All Artists at their International Competition held in 2006 at The Business Design Centre in Islington, London.
In 2007 one of Karen’s abstract works was short-listed by The Royal Academy of Arts for their Summer Exhibition.
